“Art is never finished, only abandoned.” Da Vinci,

The biggest problem with designers is that they are never satisfied with their works; most of the time, adding more details makes a breathtaking piece into the worst one. Sometimes we decide to abandon our work for its own good!

Let’s see a small story of an illustration where I introspect on how and where to stop.

Micro animations on visual.

When I started to explore, an interesting thing happened in my brain, “ One leads to another “

When I started thinking about the word ‘Explore’, my brain conceptualised a flow: travel > places> Faroe islands> flights> tickets> airports.

Finally, I fixed on the airport and started sketching. I started to do concepts!! The goal is not to create an airport but to make an interesting micro animation with airports & planes.

Modelled the Airport & flights

Added that micro animation

I thought this is the right time to say bye to my work!

As Bruno Munari said, every artwork has a purpose, be it a 300 years old vase or a 100-year-old painting, both have a purpose. Vases are designed to stock oil and paintings on the vase need to document the events and tell stories. Mostly they are the posters of medieval and things with the aesthetic touch, survived.

Like that, an illustration also has a purpose. It is to support content.

Here I am finding a purpose and checking whether I have attained it in the animation. If yes, I cease.

Might be the illustration going placed on the onboarding screen, Loading, Home and Status page of a travel app. When you place content and have a perfect balance with your illustration, that’s the perfect point to stop.

Done! A perfect content adaptable illustration with micro animation!
